The Wheelset Carrier: Making the transport and storage of rail vehicle wheelsets a breeze

The wheelset carrier was invented to protect and support  rail vehicle wheelsets during transport and storage.  In addition, they can be stacked 4 units high, releasing valuable real-estate in the depot.

They are also adaptable for gearbox and axle management.

The carriers are extremely strong and have been tested to a 32 Tonne load (certificated to 12 Tonnes).

We have produced over 1500 wheelset carriers for a number of clients, including Bombardier. They are mainly used at Central Rivers and Selhurst Park for Angel and Porterbrook trainsets.

The benefits our clients derive from their use are:

• Protection – offers a high degree of protection against fork lift damage etc
• Space Saving - wheelsets can be stacked 4 high, releasing potentially 75% of the space used previously
• Image – use of clearly branded wheelset carriers presents a more professional image to the end client
• Mobility – the wheelsets can easily be picked out and carried to their point of use
• Transport – the carriers can be used on-board lorries, so transferring the benefits above to the maintenance depot and providing protection en route.

Our carriers are universal for standard gauge wheelsets with central or offset gearboxes, with optional extras:

• clamp-on axle box supports where these are required to be maintained  horizontal.
• axle end protection e.g. for Pendolino type axles
