The Company has gone to great lengths to ensure that this product will not compromise
a column’s structural integrity even under the worst site conditions.
There is no specific test for a hinge within a column. We have therefore tested a
column with a hinge mounted in it to prove that the column remains at least as strong
as it was before the hinge. This test is as specified in BS EN 40 3-2.1 : 2000. To
this end, the York Hinge has been subjected to numerous physical tests conducted
in accordance with BS EN 40/3/2:2000 PART 3/2 (Design & Verification / Verification
by Testing) under accredited supervision.
Our normal policy on shipping the hinges is to supply a certificate of conformance
against that test certificate to confirm that the supplied hinges conform to the
original specifications of the tested hinge.

Product life - 25 years, though this can be extended through refurbishment.
Maintenance - limited to greasing of internal components only, once per year.

Lowering plane - fully independent from the service door position so that the service
door can be conveniently positioned.
Reusability - fully reusable if a column becomes life expired before the hinge.
Packaging - The product is supplied on a returnable palette.
Environmental profile - the steel used in the product (both in the castings and the
steel components) includes re-cycled steel. We support the environmental policies
of our suppliers such as Corus Steel which encompass re-cycling of the base material
and the agents used in the process – for example the recovery waste gases. Normal
production engineering processes have reduced the number of parts already and the
aim of the company to eliminate the cast component which potentially has the highest
effect on the environment. The use of the hinge reduces the carbon footprint by eliminating
the need for diesel-powered equipment.
